Our Clinic Family
Dr. Lawana Adepoju BSc DVM
Dr. Lawana Adepoju was born and raised in Sussex, New Brunswick on a small family dairy farm. Since childhood she has been caring for and nursing animals whenever the opportunity was available. In 2006, she realized her dream of becoming a veterinarian after graduating from the Atlantic Veterinary College in PEI. She also has experience in regulatory work with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and has even done some veterinary work in Kenya. Since graduating Dr. Adepoju has been working in the Ottawa area with small animals. She loves her work and is enjoying practice ownership. Her passion is in giving your pet the best care possible. Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her husband (Ade) and two children (Lily & Elijah) and her cat Stewie and dog Max.
Dr. Moyra Horner BSc DVM
Dr. Andrea Gemmill BSc DVM
Dr Andrea Gemmill grew up in Ottawa. She has always had an affinity for all sorts of animals – before becoming a veterinarian, she studied primates and their behaviour. This brought her to such faraway places as Bali and Madagascar, and fostered a love for travel and learning about other cultures. Andrea enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine, but has always had a special interest in physical rehabilitation and pain management. She is currently pursuing certification through a canine rehabilitation program. She shares her home with her family, two-legged and four, including her pup Yogi.
Kathy Casey – Office Manager
Kathy was born and raised in the Ottawa area and has always had a love for all animals. She started working in animal hospitals in 1999 and has mastered many roles including veterinary assistant, receptionist, and medical transcriptionist. She has joined our team to become our office manager, and she will most likely be the face you see as you enter our clinic. She is courteous and friendly and can answer most any question or concern you may have. She has done most everything from answering the phone, calming your pet, running tests and troubleshooting problems. She enjoys spending time with her husband (Adam), two children (Shauna & Siobhan) and her home full of pets.
Emily – Veterinary Technician
Rylie-Mae – Veterinary Technician
Rylie-Mae attended St Lawrence College and graduated in 2015. After graduation she returned to her home town and worked in a mixed animal practice. In 2019 she returned to Kingston and continued working in a small animal practice. She has now moved back to the Ottawa area and has happily joined the Hazeldean Animal Hospital team. She lives with her boyfriend, two dogs (Iris and Hät), and cat Echo. In her spare time she loves reading and hiking.
Rachel – Veterinary Technician
Rachel grew up in Stittsville and graduated from the Algonquin College Veterinary Technician program in 2019. After graduation she worked in a fast paced clinic before coming to Hazeldean as a technician. Rachel is always looking for opportunities to learn and be helpful. She has 2 dogs, Nala and Cassie, as well as Freckles, a cat she met and fell in love with through school. Outside of work she enjoys being outdoors and spending time with family, friends, and of course her furbabies!
Eliza – Veterinary Technician
Eliza graduate from Algonquin College in 2020, and shortly after graduating obtained her registration. She worked in wildlife rehabilitation for 2.5 years, then made the transition to small animal practice shortly after graduating college. Eliza shares her home with 2 cats, Prim and Leela, and a dog, Apollo. On her free time she loves skiing in the winter, and hiking with Apollo in the warmer months.
Del – Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist
Del became part of our practice family in Aug. 2020 after completing her degree. Her calm, quiet demeanor has been a soothing addition. Her interest in the practice has led to her developing duties that are varied from reception to animal handling. At home she is devoted to her dog and cat as well as two horses and a human. At work she is kind and gentle and is very thorough in everything she does. Del was raised on maple syrup and might be the biggest fan of Christmas the practice has ever met.
Olivia – Receptionist
Olivia joined our practice team in July 2023 and has since become a valuable member of our family. Before joining us, Olivia worked at an Emergency Veterinary Hospital in the Peterborough area. During her time there, she gained experience in treating a variety of animals, including pocket pets and those at Jungle Cat World. Although working with these animals was exciting, Olivia felt it was time for a change and decided to move to Ottawa. At our clinic, Olivia is responsible for answering your questions and addressing your concerns about your pets. She also schedules their appointments, ensuring that they receive the care they need in a timely manner. At home, Olivia has two beloved cats, Felix and Draco, whom she adores. When she’s not working, Olivia enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and being outdoors during the warmer months.
Melissa – Veterinary Assistant
Melissa joined the team in September 2023 and has been enjoying all the learning opportunities Hazeldean Animal Hospital has to offer. An animal lover, Melissa approaches every patient, big and small, with patience and care. Melissa thinks her house wouldn’t feel like home without her fur-babies. While her first baby doesn’t fit in the house (nor did she fit in the clinic for their picture), Melissa’s horse Abby will always hold a special spot in her heart. There’s also Callie, a tornado in dog form, she lives for Segway walks and frisbee. And Harley, the most loving couch potato, he requires all the cuddles and attention he can get. Melissa spends her free time either at the gym lifting unnecessarily heavy things, at the barn spending some quality time with her horse, or relaxing at home, bingeing Netflix with her boyfriend and the pups.

Dean
Dean came to the clinic shortly after opening day and has been a wonderful addition to the Hazeldean family. He takes his job as clinic greeter very seriously and can often be found right at the front door (go ahead and step over him) or sitting in the front window. He loves getting the attention of passers by and welcomes the attention when anyone stops in to visit, especially children. He also has a steady following on Facebook.
Lingo
Lingo was adopted from the Ottawa Humane Society in October 2015 after living on the streets. He is a very cuddly boy who is very food motivated. Lingo is extremely friendly and will always greet you when you call his name.
